Q1: ご自身について教えて下さい(Zscalerに入社する前の仕事、これまでのキャリアの歩み、その中で特に印象だった経験など。趣味やご興味のあること、差し支えなければ家族についても教えて下さい)
Can you tell us a bit about yourself? (including professional elements what you did before Zscaler, your career journey, and any interesting elements to it, and personal elements like hobbies & interests, family details you are comfortable to share etc)

I started my recruiting journey when I first came to Japan, and have been doing recruiting, both internally and externally, in some shape or another since then. My last few roles have been management in bigger companies, including some very well known consumer brand names, but coming back to pure B2B with Zscaler felt like coming back to my internal recruiting roots.

Outside of work I spend pretty much all of my time doing kendo. I’ve been lucky to travel all around the world via kendo, but right now I really enjoy teaching children at my local club. 

Q2: 次のキャリアステップにZscalerを選んだ理由を教えてください。
Why did you choose Zscaler for your next career stage?

There were two major factors for me.

First, as a brand and platform, and looking around at the world we live in and how we all interact with the internet, it was easy to see that Zscaler’s place in the connected world is a critical one, and that it has a great growth runway. This is always exciting to see when considering a move.

Second, of great interest to me was the chance to touch more than I normally do as a recruiting manager. My previous companies had extended and mature recruiting operations, but with Zscaler still very much growing both business and operations wise I have the chance to learn new things and partner with parts of the business I might otherwise not. It’s been a great growth experience already and I love the chance to get involved with things that I have previously not been able to! 

Q3: 現在のチームとご自身の役割を説明して下さい。(実際の職務内容の他に、チームカルチャーや雰囲気、チームメンバーとの関わり方、どのようなサポートがあるかなども) 
How do you describe your current team and role? (team culture and atmosphere, your peer group, support from others etc in addition to the actual job that you do)

Supportive and ambitious! The APJ Talent Acquisition team is a regional one, and my peer group is all located outside of Japan. Despite distance and time differences, they are always happy to help, ready to hear new ideas, and I really feel a united pull to achieve our goals together. This makes such a difference in regional roles, and I feel it every day. 

Q4: Zscalerでは自分がチームの一員だと感じる時はどんな時ですか? 
How have you found a sense of belonging at Zscaler?

The Japan management team really made steps to quickly bring me into the fold here, partly through necessity as we hadn’t had a recruiting manager on the ground in over a year, but also because they are a genuinely warm group of people. They have their needs, and are as demanding as any stakeholders I’ve worked with, of course, but they are also very open and welcoming of my perspective, even on things that are not immediately and directly about hiring, and that has really helped to quickly make me feel a part of the organization. 

Q5: Zscalerでリーダーであることは、どのような意味を持つのでしょうか?
What does it mean to be a leader at Zscaler?

At Zscaler managers have the HUMAN framework to guide them:

  • Hire, develop, and retain the best talent
  • Understand and Innovate with the customer
  • Model a thoughtful bias for action
  • Act like an owner
  • Nurture a growth mindset

As a leader these are all critical to success, and in TA Hiring the best is a clear objective, but I also resonate with Understand and Innovate with the customer. My customers are all internal, our hiring managers and leadership team, and I see the U in HUMAN really reflected in their willingness to support and drive ideas and suggestions to step up the quality of hiring at Zscaler as we strive to grow the Japan business together. 

Q6: 今の仕事で一番楽しいと感じることや面白いと思うことを教えて下さい
What do you enjoy most about your work?

I mentioned it already, but the opportunities to touch parts of the broader recruiting lifecycle that I wouldn’t do at a bigger company that has more layers and structure to it. Every day brings a new challenge as a result, and it makes it exciting and motivating to dive in each day!

Q7: Zscalerの将来について、何が一番楽しみですか?(ご自身のチーム、日本、グローバルな観点から、または他のこと)
What excites you most about the future of Zscaler? (This can relate to your team, Japan, or Zscaler as a whole, or something else!) 

This was a factor in why I chose Zscaler over other companies I was talking with, but the world clearly needs cyber security, with our continued and deepening reliance on the internet and cloud structure to do business, and Zscaler shows real and genuine leadership in the space. It’s great to work for an industry leader that is not just about selling boxes, but is genuinely disrupting the cyber security space with new innovations. This makes me really enthusiastic about the future of our company. 

Q8: Zscalerに入社を希望している方にアドバイスはありますか?
What advice do you have for others aspiring to join Zscaler?

As a recruiting manager, I feel for candidates that don’t get the interview because their resume lets them down or just doesn’t reflect what the company is looking for. Your resume is your first impression, so use it to show how you drive success via teamwork, how you own your work through to the end and beyond, how your relentless passion for what you do leads to success, how you bring novel and innovative ideas to challenges, and how you champion your customers. We look for all of these qualities in successful candidates at Zscaler! Good luck!
