In 2021, he retired from his position as EVP & Global CIO of Great-West Lifeco Inc, Canada’s oldest Life Insurance Company with over $2 trillion in assets under administration. Phil led the digital transformation efforts to replace legacy technologies that were anchoring Lifeco to outdated business models. Transforming the organization into a flexible, responsive, collaborative, and cloud-first leader and innovator positioned Lifeco for future success, record performance, and the ability to absorb several accretive acquisitions. After safely transitioning its global workforce to working from home within days, Lifeco emerged from a year of COVID-19 restrictions significantly stronger, and with record financial results. Lifeco continues to lead the Insurance and Wealth Management industry as a digital innovator and trusted partner. Phil was inducted into the CIO Hall of Fame as the first, and only, Canadian-based CIO.
